This is a sad story. Breast-feeding at heart of divorce dispute

What an awful situation. :( Obviously the child needs to come first in all of this.

Wow, that would be so hard. My kids both self weaned earlier than 18 months, but I would never have been ok with forcing it for any reason

why oh why do the visits have to be overnight I want to know? Why can't the father just accept that visits will have to be fun day ones. I can't even imagine being separated from my 18mo old. My oldest wasn't allowed to stay overnight with grandparents till he was 5.

While I fully support the mom wanting to breast feed as long as mutually agreeable, I have to think about the dad. Dads should be just as involved and attached as moms. All we know if what is in those 3 paragraphs, so we can't judge too much. But I would like to think that the dad is willing to figure out someway to meet the baby's needs while being able to bond and utilize attachment parenting with his child. It's my understanding that ap'ing is meant to involve the entire family - including dads.

That is a hard situation for all concerned. I am pleased that the article was written without bashing attachment parenting. It was actually pretty even-handed. Is she wearing a baby bjorn in the picture? (that is sad too ;)

As a divorced dad, with equal shared custody of my son, I have to agree with the mom on this one. I don't think anything is better for an infant than breastfeeding. While I can sympathize with the father, I think he should have the baby's best interest in mind. When the baby is older he can enjoy the over night stays.
