I'm gearing up to try a back carry with my just-shy-of-6-months dd, but I'm finding that I'm actually most nervous about putting dd back there where she has such easy access to my (long, curly, easily tangled) hair! Do any of you ladies have advice to share on how I can protect my locks? I'm already thinning enough due to postpartum hair loss!

My son does pull my hair when he's in a back carry, or just play with it. It usually doesn't hurt too much...sorry, I don't really have any tips for you - unless you could put it in a ponytail over your shoulder or something. :)

Firstly, I hear you on the post partum hair loss... every time I take a shower I worry that I'll come out bald!

I have started wearing my hair up in a bun to avoid it getting pulled. Gypsymama.com has a list of ways to deal with this, including putting your hair in a braid so that the pulling doesn't hurt as much if it happens. Might be worth checking out her suggestions...

I do a bun- sometimes he plays with it anyway if he's bored, though.

I also have really long hair, all the way down to my rear, and have an issue with back carrying. So far I have tried braids and buns. My LO still manages to find the little hairs on my neck and rip them out. I am currently borrowing a wrap (along with many other carriers) from a friend and it is The Only carrier I have been able to do the back carry in with out my LO ripping out my hair because it traps his little hands ;) I have been doing the rucksack carry. That is why I really want to buy a wrap of my own :!: Hopefully some time soon... The other carriers I have tried back carries in have been a Moby, a Mei Tie and a Chunei but I still had little hands in my hair.

My wee man is older now at 3 so no real problems unless he gets cheeky :D but i did find a ponytail much easier and it doesn't get in his face as much . A braid / plait is a good idea too , or twisted up and held with a type of clip
